News: 20 Cool New Features in the Galaxy S8 Oreo Update
Samsung has finally rolled out the Android Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and S8+. If you're just now getting the update, you'll be happy to know that your Galaxy just got upgraded with plenty of cool new features. Like previous updates, Samsung has improved upon its software by including a new look and new functionality. With Samsung Experience 9.0, the theme seems to be helping users get the information they want faster. Many of the menus have been tweaked for improved navigation. In addition, Samsung included extra customization options for the lock screen and home screen launcher. And if that doesn't excite you, Android Oreo includes features such as Picture-in-Picture Mode and Autofill API that make using an Android device even easier.

1. Samsung Keyboard Gets Big ImprovementsThe Samsung keyboard gets some big improvements in Oreo. From a usability perspective, the keyboard has obtained four distinct high contrast modes and resizing options. The high contrast modes allow the user to recognize different parts of the keyboard more easily. Resizing makes it easier for you to type comfortably and swipe to type becomes easier and more accurate. For social media and messaging lovers, the new version also brings native GIF support, Emoji 5.0, and an easily accessible clipboard from within the keyboard.Full Rundown: Samsung Keyboard Gets an Overhaul in Android 8.0

2. Notification Channels & Pin/Snooze FunctionalityWith the announcement of Android Oreo, Google detailed a new method for taking granular control of your notifications. Complex messaging and social media apps often have different types of notifications they push to you on a daily basis, and now you can change settings for each of them. One key example is Twitter, where you may receive notifications for direct messages, mentions, quotes, new feed activity, likes, and more. Many people want to receive a notification in the panel for each of these categories, but often want to alter the type of alert they receive. This is where notification channels can help.Full Rundown: Notification Channels Bring Granular Controls for Alerts

3. New Edge Lighting EffectsEdge lighting is a pretty simple thing, but it looks awesome in practice. With Oreo, new edge lighting options come to the S8 and S8+, including a sweet multi-color effect. You also have the option to tweak the width and transparency of your edge lighting effect to see how dramatic and obvious the notifications are. Of course, you might want to get a case with a decent front rim if you're going to be laying your phone on its face to try this out.Full Rundown: Edge Lighting Gets New Colors & Effects in Oreo Update

4. App ShortcutsAndroid Oreo brings support for long-press shortcuts for apps on the home screen. This feature allows up to 5 contextual shortcuts within each app, accessible by long-pressing on the app icon. Apps will need to be updated to add support for this new feature, but many already have. For YouTube, users can jump straight to their Subscriptions page or check out what's trending. In popular social media apps, such as Twitter clients, you can launch directly into composing a new tweet, direct message, or search.Full Rundown: New Home Screen Features in Samsung's Oreo Update

5. Hide Albums in GalleryIf you have certain photo albums you want to hide from prying eyes, you can now do so on the Galaxy S8. The stock Gallery app now features the option to hide as many albums as you like. It is worth noting that this is not a particularly secure method of hiding albums — for this, you still want to use something like Samsung's Secure Folder, which is password protected.

6. Custom Color Picker for FoldersWithin folder options on the home screen, you can now use a color-picker to access a custom color for your folder. The color-picker displays the current color and the new color you've chosen to make sure that you would like to proceed with the changes. This feature is dependent on the theme you are currently running, and some themes do not allow all colors to be selected. For instance, when running a black theme, you may only be able to choose shades of grey or white for folder colors. While this is a simple aesthetic change, the ability to distinguish folders by color is welcome.Full Rundown: New Home Screen Features in Samsung's Oreo Update

7. Revamped 'About Phone' Menu & Settings SearchSamsung has revamped the About Phone menu within the phone's main Settings list. When opening the menu, you now see your phone number, model number, serial number, and IMEI in a more accessible fashion.Another small change within Settings is the search history with timestamps. When searching, you will now see a list of your previous keywords arranged by time. This can be helpful if you once found a setting that you need to access again, but forgot where exactly it was located.

8. Dual Messenger Comes StandardThe Dual Messenger capability, popular in Huawei and Xiaomi phones, is now standard on the Galaxy S8. This feature is very useful for Facebook and other social media platforms where you may have two accounts. Once the feature is enabled, you will notice a little orange icon in the bottom-right corner of the app icons, this indicates the secondary account.Currently it appears that Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp are the most popular apps that support Dual Messenger functionality on the S8. Most users in North America will not find this feature appealing, but it should be a big hit with Samsung users abroad.

9. Lock Screen Accent ColorsStarting now, the wallpaper you set will have an impact on other areas of your phone's interface. Namely, Samsung has added an almost-imperceptible accent color to the lock screen clock and other information. When your wallpaper has a certain hue to it, that hue will be applied to the lock screen text.Full Rundown: Lock Screen Clock Matches Wallpaper in Oreo Update Lock screen before the Oreo update (left) and after (right). Notice the slightly pink clock.

10. New Always On Display OptionsThere's now a handful of new layouts for Samsung's Always On Display feature in Android Oreo. This gives you a little variety to differentiate your phone's look, and it comes with the added bonus of tons of new color options to take the customization a step further.Full Rundown: Always On Display Gets New Colors & Clock Styles in Oreo

11. Better Screenshot LabelsFor those who take a lot of screenshots, it can sometimes be hard to tell what the screenshots captured when you're looking at them in a file explorer. By default, Android will apply a seemingly random name that doesn't identify the content of the image. Fortunately, Samsung made this a little easier for their users. With the Oreo update, all screenshots taken are labeled as "Screenshot," along with the name of the app opened, the date, and the time. With this information, you'll know what exactly is contained in the file while within a file manager instead of having to open each one in the gallery. Don't Miss: Samsung Adds New Screenshot Labeling Feature in Oreo

12. Transparent NotificationsIn addition to altering the accent color of the lock screen, S8 users on Oreo can now adjust the transparency of notifications. Users can now adjust the background of notifications displayed on lock screen from its default opaque look to a completely invisible background. This control, combined with the new clocks and color choices, can lead to some interesting lock screen creations.

13. AutoFill ServiceWith Android Oreo, Google improved the functionality of password managers. No longer do you have to copy and paste or depend on an Accessibility plugin as a workaround. Android Oreo includes Autofill API, which allows any password manager to become the default autofill service system-wide. Once enabled, passwords from your database will be automatically populated into login fields in apps and websites. If you still on the fence about using a password manager, check out our roundup where we compare the top four password managers available on the Play Store. In the article, we break down why you need a password manager and what features you should look for (including which ones utilizes the Autofill API). Head to the link below for more information.Don't Miss: The 4 Best Password Managers with Support for Oreo's New AutoFill API

14. Revamped Search MenuSamsung altered the look of the search menu for the S8's default launcher. Instead of sections defined by opaque backgrounds, the entire menu is transparent, with the application being searched for up top and suggestions below. It is a different look which tries to reduce the time users spend searching for the app they want.

15. H-Fi Bluetooth CodecsWith the increasing number of smartphones losing the headphone jack, Google decided to improve Android support for wireless headphones with the inclusion of high-quality Bluetooth audio codecs. With these codecs, as long as your headphones support them, you can enjoy better audio quality. While not better than wired headphone, it does help to bridge the gap. Sure, S8 users don't need to worry about this since there's still a headphone jack, but it's nice to have options, especially in situations where wireless headphones are much more ideal. The Oreo update includes a number of hi-fi Bluetooth codecs including aptX, LDAC, and Samsung HD.

16. Updated Music NotificationsWhen using almost any music or media app, the music control in the notification shade will change depending on the cover art of the song. The notification shade will match the color of the cover art and adjust both the background color and controls accordingly. This feature makes your music controls stand out from the rest of the notifications within the shade.

17. More Control in the 'App Info' PageWith the new features such as picture-in-picture mode, knowing which apps have access to which settings can get confusing. To simplify the process, Android Oreo added the ability to adjust these features in one page.Open Settings and select "Apps". Choose an app to open its App Info page. Scroll down until you locate the Advanced grouping. These features will only show when applicable, and they allow users to enable (or disable) Android Oreo features such as picture-in-picture and installation of apps outside of the Play Store.

18. Bixby Vision Button in Camera AppWith the introduction of Bixby, Samsung once again created a similar offering to Google to help keep users within their ecosystem. Bixby is Samsung's take on the virtual assistant, and it offers a few features not found in Google Assistant. One such feature is Bixby Vision. With Bixby Vision, products and images that are captured by the phone's camera can be analyzed to offer additional information. This includes background information, where to purchase a product, its price, and more. While this feature was already a part of Samsung Experience 8.5, it's been made a little more accessible with a button on the main interface of the camera app that gives you direct access to Bixby Vision. With one tap, users can quickly analyze whatever images they are viewing and learn more about them. Additionally, it is a great tool to price match a product at a local store to ensure you are getting the best deal.

19. HDR Option Moved to Camera SettingsThe HDR toggle is no longer found in the camera viewfinder. Instead, Samsung moved the option within the Camera app's settings menu to avoid accidental presses and allow Samsung's SoC to determine when HDR is needed. Honestly, this move is probably for the best — the default "Auto" setting for HDR does a terrific job.

20. App Icon BadgesSamsung provides several customization options for app icon badges. Badges are dots that are shown along one corner of an app's icon on your home screen when a notification arrives involving it. The dot will remain until you clear the notification. To enable and customize this feature, open Settings and select "Notifications." Choose "App Icon Badges," which will present you with a few choices. The first toggle will enable or disable the feature. The second toggle, titled "Badge Style", can adjust whether an unread counter appears within the dot. For example, if you have multiple new emails, the number of emails will show within the dot. Finally, the last toggle controls apps that are located on your home screen. When enabled, if you long-press an app with a notification dot, it will reveal the specific notification in a sub-menu above the icon. When you return to the previous screen, you can use the list below to disable icon badges for any app. You can also control which type of alerts warrant a notification. Select "Advanced" in the upper-right corner of your display under the Notifications page. Choose an app to adjust and use the toggle listed under Categories to disable alerts. Additionally, by tapping the text, you adjust the importance of the app, what notification sound to use, if it should vibrate, etc. Options will vary depending on the category. With Samsung Experience 9.0, users can expect a lot more than just an update to Android Oreo. Samsung has included a number of new features that give it both a new look and improved functionality. How To: Boost Audio Performance on Your Nexus 5

How To: Boost Audio Performance on Your Nexus 5
The Nexus line of devices consistently offer the most bang for your buck. It's why many of us purchased a Nexus 5—at a $350 entry price, it's half the cost of any other phone with similar specs.Google manages to sell these devices at that insanely low price point by cutting a few minor corners here and there. For instance, the camera sensor in the Nexus 5, while certainly capable, is lacking when compared to its peers. As one of the most expensive pieces of hardware, Google had to "skimp" a little here to meet their low price target. And surely, you've noticed the low speaker volume, right? While you probably can't put a top-quality speaker in your Nexus 5, it's not too late to get premium sound out of your phone. With a little help from Viper Audio's Viper4Android, you'll be jamming out with perfect sound in no time. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
What You'll NeedRooted Nexus 5 Custom Recovery Busybox Commands
Step 1: Download the Viper4Android Flashable ZIPViper4Android offers a custom audio driver and a full-featured DSP Manager to boost the audio quality on your Nexus 5. There are several different methods of installing the mod, but the easiest is to use a flashable ZIP file.To download this ZIP, point the browser of your Nexus 5 to this link. Wait until it's finished downloading before proceeding.

Step 2: Boot into RecoveryFor the fastest ways to boot into recovery, check out the article I wrote on that very subject. If you'd rather do things the hard way, start by powering your Nexus 5 completely off. When the screen goes black, hold the Volume Down button with one finger, then press the Power button with another. From the screen that comes up, tap the Volume Down button twice to highlight Recovery Mode, then hit the Power button to confirm your selection.

Step 3: Install the Viper4Android ZIPFrom TWRP Recovery, tap Install to begin. Navigate to your Download folder and tap the Viper-V2.3.3.0 ZIP file. Next, swipe the slider at the bottom to initiate the install process. When installation is finished, tap Reboot System.

Step 4: Install the Viper Sound DriversFor Viper to work, it needs to tie into a custom audio driver. Just open the Viper4Android app that the ZIP file just installed, and you'll be guided through the process with on-screen prompts.First, tap Yes to confirm driver installation. On the next dialog box, select the audio driver that seems best for your needs. If you choose Super Audio Quality, another dialog will appear, where you should hit OK. Next, Viper4Android will ask for Superuser permissions. Grant it those, then a message will tell you that the drivers were installed and a reboot is needed. If you have trouble with this step, ensure that your Busybox commands are up to date. Open the Busybox Installer app, then press Install.Otherwise, at this point, it's safe to reboot your phone.

Step 5: Set Viper as Your Default DSP ManagerOnce you're back up, head into your phone's Settings. From here, jump into the Sound menu and tap Music Effects. After that, simply select Viper4Android FX and press OK.

Step 6: Configure Viper4AndroidNow that Viper's custom audio drivers are installed, and the Viper4Android equalizer is set as your default music effects controller, you can begin using Viper. To enable sound changes, head into the Viper4Android FX app and tick the box next to Enable right up top. Changes to audio quality can be made for the various sound output modes—Phone Speaker, Headset, and Bluetooth. Tick the respective Enable box in each category that you want to change. Viper's equalizer, or Firequalizer as it's called, can be enabled with another tick of a box. After that, you can choose from one of the many different presets, or your can set a custom equalizer profile of your own. To help compensate for the Nexus 5's weak external speaker, tick the boxes next to Speaker Optimization and Extra Loud. Then, tap Select Effect Strength and choose Extreme. If that's not enough customization for you, Advanced Options can be enabled via the three-dot menu button. In here, tap UI Setting, then select Expert to get the most available options. This will enable many extra options that were previously hidden. All changes occur live, so play some music and experiment with the settings to find what sounds the best for you. What settings are you using? Any recommendations? We'd love to hear them in the comments section below.

How To: Record Video & Audio Calls with Skype on Your iPhone or Android Device

How To: Record Video & Audio Calls with Skype on Your iPhone or Android Device
There's more to recording calls than just protecting yourself against liability or an angry ex — oftentimes, this feature is the perfect tool to save momentous calls like breaking news of your recent engagement to loved ones. And with the prevalence of video calls, you can even capture memorable video chats such as your mom's first glimpse of your newborn on your mobile, courtesy of Skype.Skype allows recording of both video and audio calls on an iPhone or Android device, so you can record important meetings and other important events to save for later viewing. The feature is incredibly intuitive to access and use, and it works exactly the same way for both major platforms. Best of all, the service informs all parties of the status, in addition to receiving the recording on their end.Don't Miss: The Trick to Recording Phone Calls Using the Google Voice App For security and privacy purposes, Skype only keeps any recordings made for 30 days, after which they get permanently erased. Despite this, however, Skype gives you added options to save or share your recordings for safekeeping, which is also easy to do as you'll see below. However, there is no setting to disable this feature, so you're always at risk of being recorded by others.
DisclaimerFederal law permits recording telephone calls and in-person conversations with the consent of at least one of the parties (e.g., you), but your state may have a different consent law. California, for example, has a two-party consent law, which means you have to obtain permission from the other person(s) before you can initiate recording. Know your state laws before attempting to record a conversation.

Step 1: Start & Stop RecordingRecording either your video or audio calls on Skype couldn't be any easier; Simply initiate a call by tapping on the camera or phone icon within your contact's information page, depending on the type of call, to get started. Once the call has been initiated, tap on the "+" button to reveal more options. From there, hit "Start recording" on the lower right of the menu to start recording. Once recording has kicked in, the person on the other end will have a small banner appear along the top of the screen to inform him or her that recording is now in progress for your video or audio call. To stop recording, either tap on "Stop recording" along the top of your screen or end the call. All recordings are saved on Skype's servers in the cloud, so there's no need to worry about storage space or clutter on your device.

Step 2: Access Your RecordingsOnce your video or audio call is done, tap on the recent recording found within your contact's conversation page and hit the play icon to replay the audio or video recording. Your contact will also have a copy of the recording, and as mentioned before, both you and your contact will have 30 days to save and share the recording.

Step 3: Save, Share & Remove RecordingsTo save the video or audio file, tap on the share icon on the lower left corner of the audio or video playback page, then tap on "Save." This will automatically save the file into your phone's default gallery app. Additionally, you can tap-and-hold on the video from the main chat screen and tap "Save" instead of opening the video up first. To share a Skype recording to or via another app, open the video and tap the share icon in the bottom left, then tap "Share." This will allow you to send the files using your favorite messaging, email, or social media app. Additionally, you can tap-and-hold on the video from the main chat screen and tap "Forward" to send to another Skype user. The file itself will be an MP4, in most cases, though depending on how you share it, it could be a MOV file too if you're sharing to somebody via an iMessage. Even if you're recording only audio, the file will still be a video file. The recorder can "Remove" the video (left) but the person recorded cannot (left). As of right now, only the person who took the recording of the audio or video call can remove it from the chat history. To do so, just hit the share icon again and tap "Remove." The person being recorded will not see the "Remove" option if they try the same thing.Don't Miss: More Ways to Record Phone Calls on Your iPhoneFollow Gadget Hacks on Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Sign up for Gadget Hacks' daily newsletter or weekly Android and iOS updates Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

How To: Translate Languages on the Fly with This Floating Translator for Your Samsung Galaxy S3

How To: Translate Languages on the Fly with This Floating Translator for Your Samsung Galaxy S3
Parlez-vous français? While we all wish we were fluent in multiple languages like Jason Bourne, most of us are probably one-trick ponies. When traveling abroad, or even when taking language courses, having a translator handy is extremely important. You can buy one of those huge translation books or even opt to use Google Translate or S Translator, but none of those options are as easy as having an instant access translator right on your Galaxy S3.Floating Translator (Beta), created by XDA forums member lotdrops, is an online translating service compacted into a small floating cloud or window on the GS3's screen, which is easily accessed whenever you need it. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
If you're having trouble with the menu at a Italian restaurant, simply tap on the floating icon and enter in a word to have it translated, right on the spot. Maybe you want to be cute and text that new Spanish girl you're dating "goodnight" in her native tongue...you're covered there as well.

Setting Up the Floating TranslatorFloating Translator has a limited Settings menu where you can alter the size of the window and change the floating behavior. Selecting Open/Close will toggle the service on and off. Tapping Floating behavior will change how the window reacts when closed; either locked into place and unclosable (Blocked), as a floating bubble that looks like the app icon (Become Bubble), or hidden in the notification tray (Hide). Tapping on Bubble Size lets you select the size of the floating bubble.

Using It to Translate TextTap the cloud (minimized) to open up the window, then just choose your language (see next section) and input what you want translated. Super easy!

Changing the LanguagesIn order to change the language, open up the window and tap on the language to be changed on the left or right (the language being translated or the translation result) and a small drop-down menu will appear. To swap the languages, tap on the reverse arrows in the middle to switch them around. This makes it super easy to go back and forth between speakers of two different tongues. Floating Translator currently supports Arabic, Catalan, Chinese, German, English, French, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish, with more languages to be added in the future.

Using the Built-in DictionaryThe app also has a built-in dictionary that can be pretty handy if you're reading an article online and don't want to leave the app in order to look something up. Just select dict. as a language option and then type in a word you wish to define. This feature also works in other languages.

Closing the Floating TranslatorThere are a few way to close the floating app: click on the app icon on the home screen until the app goes away, close it from within the app settings, or close it from the floating window by tapping on the small triangle on the bottom right or using the menu bar. You can also resize the window by dragging out from the small triangle, and can move the window around by dragging from the title bar.Overall, Floating Translator is a super convenient way to get quick translations on the spot. The app is still in beta, so it hopefully will continue to improve, adding a widget feature or more supported languages. While you can only translate one word at a time, it's nothing to get too upset about. The translations are super reliable and give multiple choices for that one word.To follow along with its development, check out lotdrop's thread on XDA.

To transfer pictures from an SD card to a computer, use the computer's built-in SD card slot. If there is no SD card slot, then a card reader or the camera itself can be connected with a USB cable. The computer may immediately prompt you to transfer all pictures at once from an SD card.

Instagram 101: How to Add a Link in Your Story

Instagram 101: How to Add a Link in Your Story
For the longest time, the only clickable link you could throw up on Instagram was in your profile's bio, and that's still true for a lot of users. The only way to add a clickable link aside from the aforementioned one is in an Instagram story, where users checking out your story would swipe up to load the webpage before going back to finish your story. This feature is available on both the Android and iOS versions of the Instagram app, but only specific users will be able to take advantage of it right now.The first bunch of users that can put links in their stories are those that are verified. You can't buy or request a verified badge, a blue check mark that appears next to your profile name, but it's not impossible to get one automatically if you've only got a few hundred followers. As for the second group, they are businesses profiles that have more than 10,000 followers. Previously, the requirement used to be 1 million followers, but Instagram eased that restriction, so it's possible they may make the threshold lower in the future, too.Don't Miss: How to Add Animated GIFs to Your Instagram Stories If you're included in either of the two groups mentioned above, you're good to start following the directions below. If not, you'll have to either get verified or become a popular business profile. As of right now, there are no known hacks or mods that can force a link into a story on an un-verified or non-business profile.

Adding a Link to an Instagram StoryOnce you've got a photo or video ready to go in your Instagram story that you want to add a link to, all you have to do is tap on the chain link icon up top. If you don't see this icon, you have either not been verified yet or are not a business profile. After tapping the link icon, a page will pop up where you can type in or paste the URL of the webpage you want your viewers to visit. (Tip: Tap "Preview Link" to make sure the link actually works.)Press "Done" (iPhone) or the colored check mark (Android) when you're ready, then the chain link icon up top will be filled in white to indicate that there is a URL attached to that image or video in your story.

Editing a Link in an Instagram StoryWhile you can't change a link after the story has already been published, you can change it beforehand. When editing your story, just go back to the photo or video in your story that has the link, then tap on the white chain link icon to bring up the menu. Select "Edit" to swap out the link, then tap "Done" afterward, or just select "Clear Link" to remove it right away.

Making the Link More ObviousYou can stop right here, and you'd be fine. When someone watches your Instagram story, they will see either a "Learn More," "See More," "Sign Up," or a similar label at the bottom of the image or video in your story, which they can then either tap on or swipe up.However, if you want to make sure they don't miss that small text at the bottom of the screen, you should add a related message on top of the photo or video using the markup tools available. Type, draw, whatever ... just make sure they know there's a more info a swipe or tap away.Don't Miss: How to Customize Markup Colors in Your Instagram Stories While it sucks that Instagram hasn't made this feature available to everyone just yet, it's probably a good thing, or every story you'd watch would be full of spam links, which could ruin the story experience. Still, it would be nice if they thought about their smaller users, too. How To: Jailbreak iOS 6 on the iPhone 4, 3GS, and iPod touch

Even though iOS 6 has only been out for a day, the folks over at iPhone Dev-Team have already released a Redsn0w jailbreak that works on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch (fourth generation). As of right now, there's only a tethered jailbreak available, which means that you'll have to connect your device to your computer every time you power it up, but an untethered version that works on more devices is more than likely on the way. Until then, tethered is better than nothing, so here's how to do it. Image via iphone5update.org Before you get started, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed. If not, you'll need to download it first.Plug in your device and put it in DFU mode. It's also a good idea to backup your data in case anything goes wrong. Next, download the jailbreak for your OS. You can find it here for Windows and here for Mac.After downloading, extract the file and save it to your desktop. Open the Redsn0w file and click on the Extras option, then choose Select IPSW. From here, install instructions should pop up on your screen, so just follow those and you're all set. Check out the video to see it done step by step, and for how to install Cydia. Gaming: The 9 Best Games to Play When You're Taking a Dump

Gaming: The 9 Best Games to Play When You're Taking a Dump
My bathroom is like my own private arcade room. Whenever I'm seated comfortably on the toilet, no one is going to disturb me, so I can play anything I want on my smartphone. You probably do it, too — and your parents, kids, friends, colleagues, and boss — so don't be afraid to admit it.However, what you don't realize is just how crucial the type of game you play is. You don't want a game that's too addictive, or you'll be playing until your legs go numb. And sitting too long on a toilet can actually cause hemorroids. Yes, really. Plus, if you're at work, you're not going to want everybody wondering where the hell you've been for the last half hour.Don't Miss: You're Taking a Crap Wrong! This Is How You Should PoopWhen you're taking the Browns to the Super Bowl, you need something that isn't super complicated so you can easily start and stop it when the time is right. And you're just in luck, because I've got ten perfect poop-time games that are available for both Android and iPhone, and they're all fun and easy to quit. Just make sure you wash your hands after.

1. Current StreamA simple game with a simple concept, Current Stream has you rotate pipes in order to join them together and form a current to power light bulbs. Each level has a current that needs to reach another point, or multiple points as you progress through the game. It's your job to tap and rotate pieces that enable the current to... well, flow.Thought there's an option to remove them for $1.99, the ads are fairly unobtrusive, consistently appearing after completing every other stage in the game. All in all, Current Stream comes highly recommended for its simple yet challenging gameplay, which you can play quickly and exit out of as you do your business in the toilet.Install Current Stream: Android | iOS

2. Little AlchemyThe objective of Little Alchemy is to combine elements to create new ones. You start with just four, so it's your job to get closer to the actual number of possible combinations, which is 550. Controls are extremely simple in the game, so it's basically just a matter swiping elements together on the left-hand side in order to create new elements.Little Alchemy is definitely fun when you're pooping, but it gets increasingly more difficult as you go along, so the developer also has a companion hint app to curb frustrations. Ads are are non-existent, which is awesome, as it leaves you to concentrate on making new elements distraction-free.Install Little Alchemy: Android | iOS Don't Miss: The 9 Best Free Puzzle Games for Your iPhone or Android

3. Two DotsNot only is Two Dots entertaining, it's very visually appealing with its simple design. The game requires you to connect two or more dots of the same color in order to remove them from the grid. Each color requires a specific number to eliminate. It's an uncomplicated game, but it gets more difficult as you get into the higher levels. Overall, it's quick to play and offers tips and tricks as you get further along. Two Dots has objective-based tasks to add a little flavor to the game, which primarily consist of connecting a set of dots within a given number of moves in order to progress to the next stage. The game gives you five lives to start with, which then regenerate every 20 minutes. With its simple, intuitive gameplay and minimal ads, Two Dots comes highly recommended.Install Two Dots: Android | iOS

4. Running CirclesRunning Circles has a simple premise: Tap to move from circle to circle, avoiding Minion-esque creatures as you collect all the diamonds you can. Test your skill as you switch between running within or outside of the circles, transferring from one to another as you improve your high score. Each attempt will render a new, challenging obstacle, packed with monsters to avoid and more precious diamonds to collect.Controls are easy, just tap on the screen to jump into another circle, or to go from inside to outside. Timing is critical, however, as getting caught in between circles while on the outer perimeter spells instant death. Ads are optional in Running Circles, which gives you a chance to continue where you died by either spending diamonds or watching a commercial. If you need a serious challenge while dropping a deuce, Running Circles is the game for you.Install Running Circles: Android | iOS Don't Miss: The 10 Best Free Shooting Games for Android & iPhone

5. Threes! FreeIf you're a fan of the puzzle game 2048, then definitely try out Threes. Swipe to combine numbers and increase their totals. Two can be added to one, but after three, only duplicate numbers can be combined.Trust me, you can just pick this up and start playing immediately — it's nowhere near as confusing as I'm making it sound. The game also gives you a simple tutorial that is very helpful. In addition to intuitive controls that you instantly adapt to, Threes also features no intrusive ads, offering them only as an option which rewards you with extra lives. If you love math-based puzzles while plopping down number twos in the bowl, Threes is just the game for you!Install Threes: Android | iOS

6. Punch QuestIf you have a hankering for a quick action-packed game to play while on your bathroom break, Punch Quest is just the game for you. There isn't much to explain with the game — your character sprints forward as you punch or viciously uppercut the oncoming assault from goblins, ghouls, or other creatures.Controls are easy to master — just tap on the left side of the screen to jump around, pummel enemies by tapping on the right side, and defend yourself from enemy strikes by tapping on both sides simultaneously. Ads are very minimal, and only appear occasionally in between gameplay.Install Punch Quest: Android | iOS Don't Miss: The 9 Best Free Trivia Games for Android & iPhone

7. Paper Toss BossWho doesn't love trying to score a basket with a crumpled-up piece of paper? Instead of picking up your trash every time you miss, play Paper Toss Boss and put your skills to the test while the office intern rolls past you with the basket. It's simple, and all you need to do is flick the display with your finger.Ads featured in Paper Toss Boss are largely out of the way. There's a small banner up top and an option to watch additional ads that give you rewards. These bonuses, such as points multipliers, help you rack up even more points with each bucket you make to set new records every time you play.Install Paper Toss Boss: Android | iOS Note that this app is the official, non-malicious version of Paper Toss.

8. Crossy RoadCrossy Road is essentially a revamped and improved version of the classic Frogger game. Tap and swipe to get your character as far across the maps as you can, dodging the countless obstacles in your way. It's entertaining enough and you can unlock a plethora of additional characters for free.Crossy Road is one of the few games out there that offers an entirely ad-free experience, which is truly quite refreshing considering it's a free game. That said, the game would still be highly recommended even if it did come with ads, and overall, it's a great way to kill time while in the toilet.Install Crossy Road: Android | iOS

9. Toilet TimeIt's only appropriate to leave a game called Toilet Time as the last one in this list. Designed specifically for bathroom breaks, Toilet Time is a medley of mini-games combined into one experience. You have four lives to begin with, and every failed mini-game will eliminate one. There's an option to permanently remove ads for $1.99, but they only appear occasionally in between game sessions and are easily closed. So even with the ads intact, the game is still quite enjoyable to play, as ads don't ruin your overall experience in any way. Toilet Time truly is the ideal game to play while unloading in the bathroom, and it comes highly recommended.Install Toilet Time: Android | iOS Hopefully these games keep you entertained while you're dropping the kids off at the pool, but be sure to let us know some of your personal favorite games to play while you sit on the porcelain throne.Don't Miss: The 3 Best Gaming Phones RankedFollow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, and Instagram Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+

How To: Quickly Add Notes or Drawings to Photos on Your iPhone

How To: Quickly Add Notes or Drawings to Photos on Your iPhone
Most of us enjoy taking photos with our iPhones and sharing them with friends and family, but it's adding that extra touch or funny caption that turns an ordinary picture into something unforgettable or downright hilarious. With Inkboard, you can use your imagination to draw and scribble over any photo you take or have in your iPhone's camera roll. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

Step 1: Get InkboardHead over to the iOS App Store to install Inkboard from Doodle.ly for free. Once installed, you can either use Inkboard as a standalone app or as a third-party keyboard.

Step 2: Enable the Third-Party Keyboard (Optional)I would suggest not using it as a keyboard at the moment, since keyboards in general are still somewhat glitchy in iOS 8. Also, the receiver of the picture will need to have the app installed as a keyboard in order to see any images. Otherwise your cool drawing or photo doodle will be a link out. However, if you still want to try it out as a keyboard, you can do so from your "Add New Keyboard" menu in the Settings. Refer to this guide for more info on enabling and switching between third-party keyboards.

Step 3: Doodle, Upload, & ShareUsing the Inkboard app, you can take or choose a photo to draw on. You can also add your own "ink" (drawing) by tapping the + icon in the Drawings tab. This will open a small canvas for you to create a drawing, and all drawings can be deleted by swiping to the left. If you would rather edit an existing photo, tap "Choose Photo" and select an image from your camera roll. You will notice the different drawing tools at the bottom of the screen; scroll through and select your tool of choice. Now draw on your photo and tap "Save" when you're satisfied. Next you will have your choice of sharing options. Tap on the Share icon if you wish to send the photo via text message. Find the contact you wish to share it with, and your Inkboard doodle will be sent. If you don't want to send or share the image, you can simply save it to your camera roll by tapping "Save Image." There you have it, one of the easiest and quickest ways to create, edit, and share photo drawings with your contacts. It would help if the app allowed for a way to adjust the thickness of the drawing tools, but aside from that, I'm pretty happy with it.Plus, if you have big fingers like me, you might find a stylus or something similar very useful for making fine-tuned drawings. Check out this easy DIY stylus out if you don't have one handy.Let us know what you think about Inkboard in the comment section below. Also, make sure to follow Gadget Hacks over on Facebook, Google+, and Twitter to see more iOS tips like this in the near future.

How To: Install Android 7.1.1 on Your Verizon Nexus 6P

How To: Install Android 7.1.1 on Your Verizon Nexus 6P
Android 7.1.1 stock images for the Nexus 6P were released last week on December 5, 2016. However, Verizon users seem to have been excluded from the update. Google's factory image page states "All carriers except Verizon" next to version number NMF26F. This doesn't seem fair, especially since Verizon Nexus 5X users received the latest Android Nougat update. Not to worry, though, since users over on XDA Developers have taken the risk and flashed the factory images to their devices on Verizon's network. Turns out, almost everything works perfectly! So below, I'll show you how to manually update your Verizon Nexus 6P to Android 7.1.1, in spite of the latest shenanigans from Google and Verizon.Don't Miss: Get 'Night Light' & 'Moves' to Turn Your Nexus 6P into a Pixel
What You'll NeedNexus 6P being used on Verizon Wireless Windows, Mac, or Linux computer USB data cable
Step 1: Install ADB & FastbootSince Google and Verizon have not issued an OTA update, the only way to get the latest Android version is to install it manually. So in order to update your Verizon Nexus 6P to Android 7.1.1, the first thing you'll need to do is install ADB and Fastboot on your computer.Don't Miss: How to Install ADB & Fastboot on Windows, Mac, or Linux
Step 2: Download the Factory ImagesNext, you'll need to download the Android 7.1.1 factory images package from Google's official website. This is essentially the entire Android update that Google and Verizon have been holding out on, so click the following link from your computer to grab the files.Download the Android 7.1.1 factory images for Nexus 6P from Google (.zip)
Step 3: Enable Developer Options & USB DebuggingEnabling Developer options and USB debugging is something we must do in order to unlock the device bootloader and flash the factory images that Google (or Verizon) apparently doesn't want us to have on the Nexus 6P. So use the following link to get yourself squared away on that front if you haven't already done so.Don't Miss: How to Enable Developer Options & USB Debugging

Step 4: Enable OEM UnlockingNext, open your phone's Settings and head to the "Developer options" menu that you just unlocked. From here, make sure to enable the switch next to the "OEM unlocking" option, as this will allow you to unlock your bootloader and flash the update.
Step 5: Reboot to Fastboot & Unlock the Device BootloaderUnlocking the device bootloader is the first and foremost thing one should do before playing around with their phone's operating system. It's the only way to make sure you can fully restore your device if something ever goes wrong. You'll want to do this before you flash the factory images. Do note that this step will wipe your data, so be sure to back up anything you want to keep.Plug your phone into your computer using the USB data cable. Open Command Prompt or Terminal (use the one that corresponds to your computer's operating system). Change directories to the platform-tools folder inside of your ADB installation directory. Type in adb reboot bootloader and hit enter. Wait for fastboot to boot up, then type fastboot oem unlock. On your Nexus 6P, confirm that you want to unlock the bootloader.
Step 6: Flash AwayFor the final step, start by typing the following command into your Command Prompt or Terminal window to reboot:fastboot reboot-bootloader Once you've done that, you'll now be ready to install the Android 7.1.1 update. To do so, just flash the factory images with the fastboot flash commands as we have explained in Step 7 at the following guide:Don't Miss: The Complete Guide to Flashing Factory Images Using Fastboot
Enjoy Android 7.1.1 on Your Nexus 6PThe one common report is that the Verizon Visual Voicemail app doesn't work. That's probably okay, though, since most users don't use it at all due to its extremely finicky and erratic nature. If you do use Verizon's Visual Voicemail and can't live without it, don't worry, we have a fantastic alternative: Google Phone (aka Google Dialer). This app has visual voicemail support on Verizon's network as of Android 7.1 for Nexus and Pixel phones, plus it's entirely free, which is all we need.So now you're officially running the latest Android Nougat update, even though Google and Verizon were holding it back. Congratulations are in order.Follow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and YouTube Follow Android Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+
